December 4, 1780   This bloodless Patriot Victory was famous for Colonel William Washington’s use of a “quaker gun” - a painted pine log made to look like a cannon.  Washington’s force of about 80 dragoons, used the fake cannon to trick Loyalist Colonel Henry Rugeley into surrendering his (approx.) 114 men.
